Take "The Quill" Along

Sherryanne Porter of Evanston, took "The Quill" along and snapped a picture right before she plunged into the Caribbean waters adjacent to the desert island of Bonaire. "I should have laminated it, first! I took this as a urinalysis run and some other with the boat crew.

"Bonaire, a Colony of the Netherlands, is filled with Dutch tourists who come for the scuba diving, which is spectacular.

"The island also has wild flamingos that eat the shrimp in the salt flats which are pink, brackish water, that evaporated and leaves sea salt for Cargill (and others) to harvest. Was I surprised to see the large Cargill signs.

"They use to harvest the salt using donkeys and slaves (until 1893 when the Netherlands ended their participation in the slave trade to the new world).

"The salt farms and plantations collapsed and the donkeys ran wild.

"They are being corralled and put onto a small sanctuary that survives on grocery store expired food donation NS and cash contributions from their visitors.

"While we were at the sanctuary we found a geocache, my first and probably last, as that sport is intriguing, but too time consuming for my taste."

When you go on a trip, take "The Quill" along, and have your picture taken with it, and send it to us. Let's see where all "The Quill" can travel.
