Christmas In July

by Tammy Guile, Henderson County Fair Queen Director

It's hard to believe it's been a year since we have crowned our 2017 Henderson County fair royalty. The 2017 royalty have done an outstanding job representing the fair, as well as Henderson County, throughout the state of Illinois.

Megan Magee, our 2017 Henderson County Fair Queen, is the 20-year-old daughter of Missy Parks and Donnie Magee. Megan resides in Smithshire and is a 2018 graduate of Southeastern Community College. Megan will continue her education at Western Illinois University this fall, majoring in Elementary Education.

Kaylynn Hennenfent, the 2017 Henderson County Fair Junior Miss, is the daughter of John and Jackie Hennenfent of Smithshire. Kaylynn will be a freshman this year at United High School and is active in softball, basketball and volleyball.

Kaylee Mills, the 2017 Henderson County Fair Little Miss, is the daughter of Ray and Jennifer Mills of Gladstone. Kaylee is attending West Central Elementary School and is active in softball and many other school events.

Jacob (Jack) Kane, was our 2017 Henderson County Fair King and is the son of Cindy Kane and the late Joseph Kane. Jack attends United Elementary School and enjoyed spending time with the queens and playing host at fair functions.

The 2017 Royalty did an outstanding job representing the fair this past year and are saddened by their reign ending.

On Sunday, July 22nd at 4 p.m. we have seven little miss contestants vying for the crown of the 2018 Little Miss Henderson County Fair. These young ladies have worked hard the past month learning a dance number, modeling in their dresses and practicing interview skills.

Come and support them as they compete at the Historic Raritan Opera house. Don't miss this chance to get a cup full of cuteness!

At 6 p.m, our eight Junior Miss and four Miss contestants will compete for their chance to represent Henderson County in 2018.

The Junior Miss will compete in interview, speech, pop question and evening gown. The Miss contestants will compete in a private interview and swimsuit competition and will compete on stage in evening gown, speech and pop question.

Our theme this year is Christmas in July and we encourage all guests to bring an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots or a non-perishable food item for the FOCC food pantry.

We hope to see you all at the Historic Raritan Opera House at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 22nd for the Little Miss Competition and Junior and Miss competition starting at 6 p.m.

It's never to early to think about the holidays and to have a little holiday spirit in July.

So Merry Christmas to all and to all a good pageant night!
