Meet Your Neighbor

Meet your neighbor, Debbie Shoemaker of La Harpe.

Debbie was born in Rushville.

She lived in many states growing up including Maine, California, and Florida but the majority being in Illinois.

Debbie graduated from Colchester High School.

She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Southeastern Community College in Burlington, Iowa.

She has been a registered nurse for 28 years.

The past 15 years, Debbie has worked at Great River Health Systems in various departments.

She worked as a Hospice Nurse 10 of those 15 years. Currently, she works in the hospital as a Palliative Care Nurse caring for patients with serious and chronic illnesses.

Debbie is married to Lindsay Shoemaker and they recently celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary this past May.

Lindsay is a retired Operating Engineer.

Debbie and Lindsay have two sons: Justice (Angela) Shoemaker and Jeremy (Sarah) Shoemaker.

They have 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Debbie says her hobbies include reading, gardening, fishing, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She says "I enjoy teaching family and grandchildren how to grow and preserve vegetables and fresh fruit."

A family tradition has been to attend the Fort Madison Rodeo on Saturday night. She says they haven't missed one in 41 years.

Debbie says "I feel my greatest accomplishments have been being a wife, mother, and grandmother.

"My favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6."
