Meet Your Neighbor from Stronghurst, Jessica Spiker. Jessica is a Junior at West Central High School, born in Iowa City and raised in Stronghurst her entire life.

She is 17 years old and was born on September 23, 2000. She has one older sister named Paige who graduated from West Central. Jessica also has two dogs: a 125 lb German Shepherd named Jake and a newly rescued Rat Terrier.

Jessica's hobbies include studying and learning about Genealogy and hanging out with her friends. Her advice to underclassmen is to enjoy high school while it lasts

When in school, Jessica enjoys learning about the past in U.S History. She spends a lot of her free time either working as a cook at West Central FS or volunteering at Paws animal shelter and GRMC. "I have volunteered over 250 hours throughout my high school career." She loves animals and has donated to Paws many times and helped them with fundraisers. "I enjoy meeting new people and helping them by giving attention to the animals that they otherwise wouldn't get that day. I helped raise money and bought toy balls that PAWs had requested for Christmas for the dogs. I also got a toy for each dog in the shelter."

This year, Jessica decided to put herself out there and experience a career that she might enjoy. Jessica career-shadowed Schar's Vet Clinic a few months back.

"It was an awesome experience. I've learned so much and from it."

Jessica says her role model in life is her family, "They inspire me to do great things" she said.

After graduating high school, Jessica plans to attend college for an associates or bachelors degree and then hopes to work with animals as a career. "I either want to be a vet tech or something similar", she says.

Jessica's parents are Jason and Wendy Spiker.
