Veterans Honored At West Central Middle School

West Central Middle School Veterans Day Program

On Friday, November 10, West Central Middle School hosted its annual Veterans Day Program.

The gym was packed with community members who were excited to honor our local veterans.

Henderson County American Legion Post #765 presented and retired the colors for the event.

Mr. Jason Bates from the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities was the keynote speaker for the event.

Mr. Bates brought a special guest with him, Mr. Terry Shields, who is a Vietnam Veteran and Honor Flight recipient.

Both the West Central Middle School and High School bands performed, as well as the West Central Middle School choir,.

West Central High school student David Gaylord played Taps.

West Central's band and choir are directed by Mr. Matt Stewart and Ms. Danna Cory, respectively.

Middle schoolers Sebastian Perez, Alaina Fisher, and Shaden Logan read essays they had especially written for the Veterans.

Boy Scout Troops #61 and #63 lead the crowd in The Pledge Of Allegiance, while West Central 8th grader Nevaeh Stimpson sang The National Anthem.

Mr. Byron Helt, 8th grade Social Studies teacher, put together a moving tribute in video of pictures and information of Henderson County Veterans.

Other students who were involved in the program included Ashley Shultz, Logan Brent, Bindi Bailey, and Ross Vancil.

The West Central Middle School Veterans Day committee included Mrs. Lisa Miller, Mr. Byron Helt, and Mrs. Julia Burns.
