The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Greetings ta ever one in western Illinois and all readers of "The Quill."
From time ta time I am forwarded some enterest'n information that causes a feller to pause fer reflection. The first one in this category is as follows:
A Letter By A Florida Teacher
Do you know that we have adult students at the school where I teach who are NOT U. S. Citizens and who get the PELL Grant, which is a federal grant (no payback required) plus other federal grants to go to school?
One student from the Dominican Republic told me that she didn't want me to find a job for her after she finished my program, because she was getting housing from our housing department and she was getting a PELL Grant which paid for her total tuition and books, plus money left over.
She was looking into WAIT which gives students a Credit Card for gas to come to school, and into CARIBE which is a special program (check it out-I did) for immigrants and it pays for child care and all sorts of needs while they go to school or training.
The one student I just mentioned told me she was not going to be a U.S. Citizen because she plans to return to the Dominican Republic someday and that she "loves HER country.'
I asked her if she felt guilty taking what the U.S. is giving her and then not even bothering to become a citizen and she told me that it doesn't bother her, because that is what the money is there for!
I asked the CARIBE administration about their program and if you are a U.S. Citizen, you don't qualify for their program. And all the while, I am working a full day, my son-in-law works more than 60 hours a week, and everyone in my family works and pays for our education.
Something is wrong here. I am sorry, but after hearing that they want to sing the National Anthem in Spanish-enough is enough. That's a real slap in the face. It was written by Francis Scott Key and should be sung word for word the way it was written. The news broadcasts even gave the translation-not even close!
I don't care whether this offends someone or not, but this is MY COUNTRY.
I am not against immigration-I just expect immigrants to come through like everyone else. Get a sponsor; have a place to lay your head; have a job; pay your taxes, live by the rules and learn the language as all other immigrants have in the past-and "GOD BLESS AMERICA!"
The next enterest'n bit of information concerned MSNBC decline'n further comment:
During a recent press conference, a reporter with MSNBC hollered from the press corps, "Where is President Trump hiding his tax returns?"
Press Secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, astutely responded, "We've found a very secure place and I'm certain they won't be found."
"And just where is that?" said the reporter, sarcastically.
Mrs. Sanders grinned sardonically and said, "They are underneath Obama's college records, his passport application, his immigration status as a student, his funding sources to pay for college, his college records, and his Selective Service registration.
"Next question?"
Justice Served
The third bit of information relates to a Texas story that concerns justice be'n served.
Not sure if'n this is true or not but if'n it is it could only happen in Texas. Here it is just as it was sent me:
A True Story From.."The Houston Herald" Houston, Texas.
Last Thursday night around midnight, a woman from Houston, Texas was arrested, jailed, and charged with manslaughter for shooting a man 6 times in the back as he was running away with her purse.
The following Monday morning, the woman was called in front of the arraignment judge, sworn-in, and asked to explain her actions.
The woman replied, " I was standing at the corner bus stop about 15 minutes, waiting for the bus to take me home after work. I am a waitress at a local cafe, I was there alone, so I had my right hand on my pistol in my purse hanging on my left shoulder.
All of a sudden I was spun around hard to my left. As I caught my balance, I saw a man running away with my purse. I looked down at my right hand and saw that my fingers were wrapped tightly around my pistol. The next thing I remember is saying out loud, "No way punk! You're not stealing my pay check and tips."
I raised my right hand, pointed my pistol at the man running away from me with my purse, and started squeezing the trigger of my pistol. When asked by the arraignment judge, "Why did you shoot the man 6 times?"
The woman replied under oath, Because, when I pulled the trigger the 7th time, it only went click."
The woman was acquitted of all charges. She was back at work the next day! That's Gun Control Texas Style.
Cell Phone Info.
The fourth and final contribution of information concerns four things ya might not have known about your cell phone that ya might want ta keep in your car, purse, or wallet ta use if'n the time comes ya might need it in an emergency:
Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival.
Check ou the things that you can do with it:
First (Emergency)
The emergency number worldwide for mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly, this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.
Second (Hidden Battery Power)
Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370#. Your cell phone will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell phone next time.
Third (How to Disable a Stolen Mobile Phone)
To check your mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: *#06#.
A 15 -digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe.
If your phone is stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code.
They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it ether If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.
And finally.
Fourth (Free Directory Service for Cells)
Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don't have to. Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem.
When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial: (800) FREE 411 or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all.
Program this into your cell phone now. This is sponsored by McDonald's.
This is the kind of information people don't mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends.
There ya have it then, information submitted for ya ta dwell on fer a bit. It'll be enterest'n ta see what the boys think of these various submissions. Anyways, it is hoped ya likes "em.
Veterans Day
November 11th
This Saturday, November 11th is Veterans Day.
Let's all take time to make our veterans aware of just how much we appreciate what they did to protect our nation. It takes courage for a soldier to risk life and limb for his country. The least we civilians can do is to honor these heroes-venerate these great men and women with words of appreciation to these selfless souls.
Saturday, take a child with you and visit a veteran and learn his history.
Remind the younger generation of their duty towards their country, and inspire them to uphold the tradition of liberty, fraternity, and equality.
Hope'n ta see ya in church this weekend.
Remember, where ever ya are, what ever ya be a do'n "BE A GOOD ONE!"
Keep on Smile'n
Count yer many Bless'ns
Catch ya later
