Maroa-Forsythe Ends Chargers Season

In a Class 2A football playoff game the Illini West Chargers had to travel across state for a first round playoff game. Maroa-ForsytheTrojans (8-1) scored quickly on their first two possessions to take an early 14-0 lead. On Illini West's 3rd possession the Chargers moved down field and scored on an 11 yard run by Colton Sargeant. Extra point was good and score stood at 14-8.

The Trojans scored quickly again and led 21-8. The Chargers were stopped and the Trojans moved the ball down the field. The Chargers forced a fumble and recovered it taking over at their own 10 yard line. Jackson Porter passed to Sargeant for a 90 yard TD. Extra point was good and the Chargers pulled to within 5 points at 21-16. Time ran out in the first half before the Trojans could score.

The Trojans would score to start the 3rd quarter and increase their lead to 28-16. The Chargers would fight back and score on a 26 yard pass from Porter to Carter Boyer. The extra point failed but the Chargers were again within striking distance at 28-22. The Trojans would dominate the rest of the game by scoring 28 unanswered points for a 56-22 lead. Chargers would score on a 4 yard run by Michael Lord with 23 seconds left in the game. Final would be 56-28.

Nick Voorhies gained 96 yards on 23 carries. Colton Sargeant ran for 72 yards on 16 attempts and 2 TD's. Michael Lord ran for 54 yards on 12 carries and 1 TD. Porter had a good day passing by completing 6 of 11 passes for 213 yards. Chargers end their season with a 6-4 record.
