Liquor In Stronghurst Restaurant To Be Discussed At Public Meeting

by Shirley Linder, Quill Editor

Monday evening at the Stronghurst Village Board meeting Chase Gibb, owner of The Buffalo, in Burlington, IA, announced he is considering buying the Broadway Cafe in Stronghurst and requested permission to sell liquor in order to make it profitable.

He stated his business at The Buffalo is 60% food and 40% liquor.

Asked by Michael Bohnenkamp if he could make a go of it without liquor, Gibb said "no".

When asked, Attorney Bill Rasmussen said he would need to research if the current packaged liquor ordinance could be amended or if the issue of selling liquor by the drink would need to go to a public vote.

It was approved by the board to hold a public meeting on Thursday, May 11th at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall so that residents could come and ask questions or give their opinion on the matter before the board makes the final decision to approve or deny the request.
