The Stronghurst Lions Club completed another successful year in 2016. Our Lions Club goal is to help with community activities in Stronghurst and neighboring communities as well as individuals in need.
We are pleased to share that several community organizations helped sponsor some of our programs this year.
These organizations include the Bank of Stronghurst, Oquawka Banking Center, Raritan State Bank, Security Savings, and Thrivent Insurance.
I would like to share a few of the activities that the Stronghurst Lions Club was involved with during the year of 2016.
Provided assistance to one individual with the purchase of glasses.
We collect used glasses for overseas Lions Club programs.
Partnered with the Henderson Soil and Water Conservation District to provide a Norway Spruce Tree to each 4th Grader at West Central as part of Arbor Day Celebrations.
Partnered with the Bank of Stronghurst with our annual Easter Egg Hunt for our children in the community.
Provided two 250 dollar scholarships to graduating Seniors from West Central based on service to the community.
Donated to the Illinois Eversight Program that works with cornea transplants.
Sponsored a cookout on the evening of Trick or Treat Night for those individuals and families participating in the Halloween festivities.
Provided funds to the FOCC Organization in Stronghurst at Christmas to help provide assistance to members of the Henderson County community.
Our only fundraiser for the year is our annual soup supper held in March.
Current members include Paul Anderson, Dale Buss, Bob Carmean, Brad Flatt, Ron Gittings, Denny Hilligoss, Jerry Keimig, Richard Knutstrom, Jeff Nichols, Marvin Roth, Jerry Spiker, and Chuck Vaughn.
We also appreciate the assistance of several community members that assists us with some of our programs each year.
If you would like to help make a difference in our community and are interested in joining the Lion's Club, feel free to stop in and visit during one our meetings. We meet the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 at the Bank of Stronghurst. You can also get additional information by visiting with any member of the Lion's Club.
