West Central Approves Teachers-Staff Contract, Hires 6, Accepts 9 Resignations

A brief special board meeting was held Monday, June 12, of the West Central C.U.S.D. #235 Board of Education with all board members present with the exception of Mike Lenahan, at roll call. The following items took place:

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.in the West Central North Campus Library by Board President Paul Anderson and after roll call, Anderson led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and approved the agenda with one change-Item VI.A. - Exempt Staff Salaries FY18 was moved to Closed Session.

There were no public comments and the board entered closed session at 6:05 p.m. to discuss matters related to personnel and contract and exited closed session at 7:07 p.m., an hour later, but in the next 9 minutes the board quickly took the following action:

• approved a one year contract with the West Central Association of Teachers and Staff,
• accepted the resignation of:
• Chris Conlee, as the WCMS Assistant Principal,
• Jeremy Burrell, as the WCES Physical Education Teacher,
• Julie Nutt, as the Elementary and High School Art Teacher,
• Debbie Spiker, a District Custodian,
• Teresa Stevenson, as an Associate,
• Susan Bundy, as a Freshman Class Sponsor,
• Jill Colley, Freshman Class Sponsor,
• James Black, Junior Class Sponsor,
• Jonathan Steben, as a Jr. Class Sponsor,
• approved the employment of:
• Leigh Erlandson as the Elementary and High School Art Teacher,
• Kurt VanHorn as a WCHS Science Teacher,
• Kimberly Harrison as the WCES Assistant Principal,
• Joe Hess-Haughey as a WCHS Assistant Football Coach,
• Robert Fleming as the WCMS 6th Grade Volleyball Coach, and
• Matthew Stewart as the WCMS and WCHS Instrumental Music Activities Director.

The Board adjourned their special board meeting at 7:16 p.m. and will meet in regular session on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the West Central North Campus Library.
