Jarid Guyton Earns Eagle Scout

Jarid Daniel Guyton, son of Jason and Amanda Guyton of Biggsville and Amanda and Tim Congdon of Hamilton has achieved Boy Scouting's highest rank, that of Eagle Scout.

Jarid is a member of Boy Scout Troop 61, sponsored by the Oquawka United Methodist Church under the leadership of Scoutmaster Scott Ray and Assistant Scoutmasters BJ Kelly, Jason Guyton and Steve Moede.

Jarid began his scouting career as a Tiger Scout with Pack 30 in Macomb.

When his family moved to Biggsville he joined Cub Scout Pack 60 under the leadership of Brian and Nancy Sterett and Jason and Amanda Guyton earning Cub Scouts' highest award, the "Arrow of Light".

Jarid bridged to Boy Scout Troop 61 in Oquawka where he held numerous leadership positions and earned 29 merit badges.

In 2013 he attended NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) at Camp Eastman. In 2014 he attended the National Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia. Jarid is also a member of the Order of Arrow and Tribe of the Silver Tomahawk.

On May 4, 2017 Jarid appeared before the Eagle Board of Review and became an Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout project, he designed a commercial playground around the history of Oquawka.

Jarid is a junior at West Central High School in Biggsville.

The public is invited to attend Jarid's Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 302 North 3rd Street in Oquawka.
