Chem Gro Inc. is a privately owned company providing agriculture services, including Grain Storage, Fertilizer, Chemicals, Custom Application, Agronomy Specialists, Global Position Soil Testing, Seed, and LP Services to area farmers since 1954.
The company is owned by the Harold and Greg Dyer families.
In 1954 Harold Dyer along with his brother Irvin Dyer started a business in West Point, IA as a sideline to their farming operation. They built an ammonia storage plant which then allowed them to distribute the product to local farmers.
The 60's and 70's were a time of expansion for Chem Gro.
In 1963, land was purchased in Houghton, Iowa. A dry fertilizer blending plant was built and in 1964, a fertilizer plant was built there.
In 1976, a grain elevator was built at the Houghton location adding grain handling and storage to the already well established fertilizer business. In that same year, they purchased an Elevator in Adrian, Illinois expanding the Illinois business to also include grain.
In 1988, the company purchased property in Bowen, Illinois and built a new fertilizer plant and grain elevator, doubling the Illinois operation.
In 2001, Chem Gro purchased Tri-County Fertilizer in La Harpe, Illinois to expand the fertilizer business territory.
In that same year, they purchased the Iowa Double Circle Co-op in Olds, Iowa expanding the Iowa fertilizer business territory as well.
