On a blustery Monday, Stronghurst Village officials and American Legion members raised the state's 2017-2018 Illinois Bicentennial Flag to kick off the state's year long 200th birthday celebration. Conducting the ceremony was Stronghurst Mayor Brendan Schaley with veterans and legion members Jim Blender (US Air Force Korea 54-58), Norm Menzenberg (US Air Force Vietnam and was in Air National Guard 63-69), Ronald Schaley (US Army Germany 61-70), and Bruce Caldwell (US Navy San Diego and Pearl Harbor 71-78).
