The Wisdom of Barnyard Bruke: Grapes & Strawberries, Global Warming, Climate Change

Greetings ta ever one in western Illinois and all readers of "The Quill."

Grapes and Strawberries

How many of Barnyard readers are obese? How many readers eat grapes and/or strawberries?

A U.S. Department of Agriculture study indicates cosum'n grapes and/or strawberries may help reduce infection risk in obese folk and decrease certain types of fats in yer blood that are linked ta heart disease.

Phytochemicals are natural compounds in fruits such as grapes and strawberries. Phytochemicals have a positive effect on the immune system of obese individuals.

Obese folk are at a much higher risk for develop'n viral and bacterial infections after surgery.

I ate dinner at a restaurant the other day and observed obesity seems ta be in fashion. Statistics say about 35 per cent of Americans are obese.

At this particular "Hog Trough" I visited the percentage was more like 80 per cent or more. These folk are at a higher risk of develop'n heart disease, diabetes and bacterial and viral infections.

Studies show that after eat'n grapes or strawberries folk have reduced plasma concentrations of low-density Lipoprotein, know as "bad" cholesterol, which is associated with heart disease.

When scientists stimulated immune cells from blood with a bacterial component, they found an increase in the production of proteins-cytokines-that are instrumental in fight'n off infections.

Well, as far as me and the boys are concerned and after much discussion, dwell'n on these thoughts for several days, we is stock'n our refrigerators up on plenty of fruit include'n grapes and strawberries.

But, of course, that's not ta say any of us is obese. That's just too nasty a word to admit ta. I'll just say we is "well fed!"

Global Warming and Climate Change

There is this feller, Paul Driessen, who challenges the ignorance and hypocrisy of those who buy into the "suicidal global warm'n crusade."

Driessen is a senior policy advisor for the committee for a constructive tomorrow.

He maintains that a wide range of organizations are devoted ta the denial of man-made climate change.

There seems ta be a lack of general scientific knowledge about what makes our world work.

Most folk have been knee jerk trained into believe'n carbon dioxide is a toxic pollutant.

They would be surprised if'n ya informed "em that carbon dioxide is on essential element of a healthy planet.

Driessen states "A couple degrees warmer would be good for humanity and planet, especially with more plant-fertilizing carbon dioxide in the air. Crops, forests and grasslands would grow faster and better.

Longer growing seasons over larger areas of land would support more habitats, wildlife, agriculture and people-particularly if everyone has access ta ample, reliable, affordable motor fuels, electricity and modern farming technologies."

Ya should take note of "plant-fertilizing" carbon dioxide.

Most folk hardly understand that those dreaded "green house gases" are actually plant food.

As a general rule, the more CO2, the more available plant food.

That's part of the cycle of hydroponics that ADM experimented with a few years back.

Oxygen for the fish and CO 2 for the vegetables all in one large greenhouse aquarium.

Fear mongers claim the earth is warm'n but actually it has been cooling since 2007.

The seeds of fear are planted in humans not by actual temperature increase.

It is computer models that "forecast" the end of planet earth. Those computer models are less reliable than a smoke signal on a smartphone.

In fact data go'n back thousands of years shows the same cyclical trends of warming and cooling.

Think back on several glaciers that were in our area which helped create our productive farmland as well as the Mississippi River upon their melting.

The real reason for man-made climate change is fear mongering as a tool to control folk. That was actually leaked from the United Nations.

The persistent attack on property rights in the name of protecting the environment has never been about anything other than the destruction of property ownership and the removal of all incentives ta develop anything that improves human lives.

Wherever capitalism thrives with realistic regulations, those folk are doing well. Wherever human management of resources and economic incentives are limited, those folk are struggling.

I am reminded of 2 Peter 1, 1-4 and Isiah 5:20. Essential in paraphase'n there is a time when good is thought of as bad and bad is thought of as good.

That's where we are at with this global warming man-made climate change fear mongering political talk!

Me and the boys is a gonna dwell on them thoughts and Paul Driessen for a spell whilst we are a munch'n on our grapes and strawberries.

Enjoy the Maple City Car show Friday night in Monmouth and the La Harpe Classic Car Show & Reunion Saturday morning and afternoon. Have a good rest of the week and Mrs. Bruke an I hope'n ta see ya in church.

Remember, wherever ya are, whatever ya be a do'n "BE A GOOD ONE!'
