The school board regular meeting was held March 21, 2017 in the district library. Board Candidates Brian Brown and Ryan Johnson were visiting.
The board approved the consent agenda and payment of the bills. Courtney Rude was approved as track assistant coach and a 4-year contract was approved for Dr. Olson.
Dr. Olson reported the recent payments for the school district totaling $147,428.75 that have been vouchered by the state, but not yet processed by the comptroller. ISBE is just now scoring the state Science assessment which the 5th and 8th grade students took last year, for which scores are finally expected this summer.
PARCC and the Illinois Science Assessment for this year will be taken shortly.
Dr. Olson reminded the board of his vacation days. Dr. Olson provided an annual agenda calendar to give the board an idea of topics coming up. The annual ROE min-compliance visit was completed which checks for required website and personnel file information.
Mrs. McKeown gave updates on athletics, the School Wide Morning Meetings, and Illini West classes and activities for which 8th graders may register and tryout, thanks to the La Harpe Telephone Company who sponsored a 7th grade trip to the Titanic Exhibit at the Peoria Riverfront Museum.
Tornado drill procedures are being tweaked based upon new information gathered from footage of the Joplin, Missouri school.
Other updates were given about a recent parent night, teacher institute, PARCC testing for Math and English Language Arts.
The Booster Club held a very successful "Spike-Out Cancer Night" fundraiser for St. Jude, spring pictures were taken, and several history students participated in the Illinois History Fair in Springfield at which they received a superior score and will advance to the state competition on May 4th.
McKeown listed recent professional development activities which the staff have participated in, and included a Scope and Sequence developed for English Language Arts.
La Harpe School Board meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the school library.
