Meet Your Neighbor

Cindy (Sheffler) Oliver from Danville, IA. She was delivered by Dr B.I. Mueller at La Harpe Hospital in 1957 to the late Kenneth (Bud) and Carol (Jones) Sheffler.

She attended La Harpe schools from Kindergarten through high school, graduating in 1975.

Her dad was a farm hand when she was an infant, then went to work at Iowa Industries/Champion Spark Plug in 1956. He retired from Champion after 30 years of service. He was the oldest son, and one of nine children born to Raymond and Dollie Sheffler. He passed away in March of 2012

Her mom was a homemaker and worked at Hobby's, La Harpe Newsland, and later at R&D foods, all in La Harpe. Her mom and her twin brother, Darol ,were born next to last in a long line of 12 children born to Harley and Fern Jones of La Harpe. She passed away in April of 2013

She has one brother, who is 18 months older than she is, Kenny and his wife Nancy (Mayer) Sheffler of Phoenix, AZ. Nancy is originally from South Bend, IN.

In 1975 she married Don Little in La Harpe. They later divorced. They have three children who all graduated from La Harpe.

Bryant and his wife RitaMarie Knizewski (originally from Long Island, NY) live in Seattle, WA with their two children. Jessie and his wife Jessica Leffler (originally from Warsaw) live in Hamilton, with their five children, and Blaire (Little) Burke and her husband Will, live in Burlington IA with their five children.

In 1992 she married Jim Oliver in Keokuk, IA, who is an electrician by training. His work history includes General Mills, Olgivie Mills and ADM grain mills in Keokuk, IA, and BNSF Railroad. He retired from BNSF two years ago, as a Trainmaster.

Jim is the son of Jim Oliver Sr of Keokuk IA, and the late Marilyn Oliver.

She has three stepsons, Jim and his wife Carrie live in Hamilton along with their two sons. Don and his wife Marietta live in Keokuk, IA with their five children, and Dustin of Pomona, CA.

If your counting...yes indeed, we have 19 grandchildren. It seem ironic to her, that 4 of their children have given them 5 grandchildren each, and 2 have had 2. Is is easy to count, they each have 5 or 2.

In 1987 Cindy graduated from Robert Morris College in Carthage with a degree in Medical Assisting.

She worked at Burlington Medical Center, Burlington Area Family Practice, Valley Medical Center in Ft Madison, IA, Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Stormont Vail Medical center in Topeka, KS., and a reference lab out of St Louis, MO.

With Jim working for BNSF, they moved a lot. It was always easiest to get a job as a Phlebotomist, drawing blood.

Her most challenging job was the reference lab which was essentially a third shift job. Driving across the countryside drawing blood in nursing homes.

It even brought her to the La Harpe Davier Healthcare Center on occasion.

When they moved to Danville in 2011, she decided to get out of Healthcare, and do something "fun".

That lead her to doing daycare for her daughter, and her current jobs at the Casino gift shop, and working at Ideal Wellness, weight management clinic, both in Burlington, IA. For a number of years she was a dog breeder of Maltese puppies

In her spare time, she enjoys going to the grandchildren's events, traveling to watch their nephew, John Oliver Jr race.

Antique shopping, and traveling, especially to Seattle to see Bryant's family. Jim and Cindy recently went to Cancun for their 25th wedding anniversary, and they hope to do a lot more traveling in the future.
