The Illini West Chargers Kickoff Homecoming With A Victory

The Illini West Charger football team defeated Peoria-Heights by a score of 58 - 29 on Friday night.

This win came after the Patriots held a one point lead midway through the 3rd Quarter. The Chargers started the scoring off early when Connor Artman reached the end zone on a 7 yard run behind the big blocking of linemen like Ty Jackson and Kennedy Gooding.

This was IW's first offensive series which soaked up six minutes off the clock and was capped off when Connor Artman again ran in the two point conversion.

The Patriots would score on their next possession but Illini West would answer in the second quarter when Nick Vorhies reached pay dirt on a five yard touchdown run and Jace Norman would catch a pass from Quarterback Jackson Porter to give the Chargers a 16 - 6 lead going into halftime.

Illini West and Peoria Heights would trade scores back and forth to start the second half before the Chargers found themselves down 23 - 22 midway through the 3rd Quarter. However, IW would reclaim the lead for good after that with the help of the three more touchdown runs from Connor Artman.

He would finish the night with 275 rushing yards. Joe Adkisson and Aden Trout would each score second half touchdowns as well for the Chargers.

Defensively, the Chargers were led by Connor Artman's eight tackles. Michael Lord and Jace Norman would each add seven tackles respectively and Norman also intercepted a Peoria-Heights pass in the first quarter.

Colton Sargeant would later record an interception for the Chargers in the third quarter to help swing the momentum in the favor of IW.

The Chargers will play again this week when they travel to Elmwood for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff on Friday, September, 30th.
