July and August School Board Meetings

The school board's regular meeting was held July 19, 2016 in the district library. The board approved support staff salaries, reviewed the last six months of closed meeting minutes, and approved the consent agenda and payment of bills.

The board approved the schedule of monthly meetings continuing to hold them on the third Tuesday of each month.

The board reviewed the Integrated Pest Management Plan, the School Wellness Plan, the District Internet Use Policy, and the Faculty and Student Handbooks.

The board set the budget hearing date for September 20, 2016 at 7:15 p.m.

Dr. Olson reported that he will be selling Summerfest tickets with the Lion's Club and that former superintendent, Dr. Breckon, had called to compliment the school newsletter which recently was mailed to all La Harpe residents and households in the district.

Illinois General Assembly has finally passed an education budget for next year.

Dr. Olson reported that with the passing of SB 2047, La Harpe School is forecast to receive $55,735.34 more than was originally projected.

The State Nutrition and Wellness Division announced that income-eligible Medicaid matches for free lunch will still not be available for some time, but notification will be given once these records become available again.

The LEA and the District are hosting a Back to School Kick-off for all staff members in a joint effort to informally get together before the school year begins.

The administration is working with La Harpe Christian Church to provide back packs, school supplies, and shoes to children in need of these items.

Items will be distributed on August 20 at the church's back to school bash.

The school board regular meeting was held August 16, 2016 in the district library.

The board approved employment for elementary teachers Karrie Wallace and Julie Garrison, received resignations from teachers, Meagan Pennington and Natalie Vershaw, and received Libby Olson's retirement letter and approved Libby as a sub cook.

The board approved the consent agenda and payment of bills, school bus routes and audit services.

The board accepted the preliminary budget, approved moving to Schoolwide Title I, and approved two inter-fund loans.

Dr. Olson reported that the La Harpe Boosters would hold a Family Fun Day and an LEA- and Administration-coordinated Welcome Back Kick-Off was held for staff.

The auditor was here during the first week of August. Dr. Olson presented information about the Chicago Schools Tour, an adjustment in TRS, details from an ROE meeting, a new law concerning reimbursement for board expenses, and a new law concerning overtime pay for employees.

Mrs. McKeown gave approximate numbers per class for registered students.

Elementary teachers and junior high science have been working in their rooms prior to school start and the janitors did an amazing job over the summer. Baseball started with 15 students. School board meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the school library.
