Sadly, after more than 40 years, La Harpe Summerfest will no longer be able to take place.
According to The Golden Rule Club and The La Harpe Lions Club who have sponsored this popular event, the smaller attendance and dwindling support from the community, has made it impossible to secure "big" rides and high priced entertainment.
The "big" rides are more and more difficult to secure due to demand and the large amount of money necessary to bring them to this venue. This money is not available without high ticket sales, organizers said. And as a result, the La Harpe Summerfest has become cost prohibitive.
The Lions Club and Golden Rule Club members are saying, "Don't despair, though."
Both, The Lions Club and Golden Rule Club have decided to focus their efforts on helping to build up the newly formed Fourth of July celebration sponsored by the La Harpe Park District, now approaching their third year in 2017.
Community help is needed to make these endeavors a continued success. It is hoped La Harpe will reach out in order to make this the best celebration within 500 miles.
Looking back on the many Summerfest events brings smiles and many good memories. A big salute to all who gave of their time and energy throughout these forty some years!
