Meet your neighbor and Illini West Senior Megan McElroy of Carthage, born on March 18, 1998 in Carthage.

Megan is the daughter of Kent and Shannon McElroy of Carthage. Her father is a farmer and her mother is the finance director for Quanada in Quincy. Both Shannon and Kent are from the Plymouth area originally.

Megan has two younger siblings, Devin 13 and Carmen 7. Megan is the granddaughter of Oscar and Helen McElroy of Augusta, retired farmers and Keith and Bonnie Mayall of Plymouth. Keith was a road commissioner and Bonnie worked at Methode.

While in high school, Megan has been very busy.

She has been involved in track, band, quiz bowl, National Honor Society, International club, math team, WYSE team, robotics club and volleyball.

Her accomplishments include Drum Major for 3 years, high honor roll, 4th place in discus 2015 state championship in track, school record holder in the discus, Illini West Student of the Month, Journal Pilot Athlete of the Week (3 times), 1st place in Algebra 2 competition for ICTM math team, West Central Conference Honors Band 2015, Illinois State Scholar, and Outstanding Drum Major Award in Field Competition (2013). Megan was also in Girl Scouts for 7 years.

Her favorite memory of high school was winning the state championship as a team in track in 2015.

In her spare time, Megan enjoys throwing discus, shopping, reading, exercising, cooking, and helping her dad on the family farm.

Megan has signed to throw discus at Central Michigan University and plans to pursue a degree in Dietetics or Physical Therapy.
