Memorial Medical Clinic La Harpe

by Deb Olson, The Quill

Memorial Medical Clinic La Harpe,

501 E. Main St.

The original business, La Harpe Davier Rural Health Clinic, was created in 1988 when La Harpe Hospital discontinued inpatient services in La Harpe.

There was a coordinated effort then to open the Rural Health Clinic at the time inpatient services ceased.

The original clinic was housed in the old ER portion of the La Harpe Hospital/La Harpe Davier Health Care Center.

At that time, Mary Jo Ray, NP was one of the providers, working with the late Dr. Robert Pogue, MD.

Mary Jo moved her practice to the Keokuk, IA area.

Vivian Palmer, PA served the clinic for a year.

Then, in 1997 Monica Crim, APN-FNP, grand-daughter of the late Dr. B. I. Mueller, MD started her practice here.

In 2002 Monica purchased the practice from La Harpe Davier Health Care Center.

In 2014, Ms. Crim sold the La Harpe Rural Family Health Clinic to Memorial Hospital Association.

At the time of the incorporation, Memorial Medical Clinic Manager Stephanie Meyers said, "Monica Crim brings great experience and expertise to our group." And "Monica sees patients of all ages and stages of life."

Clinic services include: acute illness care, health screenings, physicals including DOT labs, simple office procedures and laceration repair, and chronic disease management.

Employees include:

Monica Crim, Nurse Practitioner; Karyn Streicher, LPN; Meghan VanNiewaal; Janet McKay, LPN; Christina Ellefritz, Medical Assistant/Receptionist; Sharon Powelson, Receptionist; Dawn Cousins, Nurse Practitioner (Thursday only); Medical Collaborative Physician Douglas Heighton, MD; as well as various other nurses and receptionists who fill in when needed from other clinics.

The Memorial Medical Clinics webpage found at https://www.mhtlc.com/pages/clinics, states that "Comprehensive family health care for patients of all ages is available at the Memorial Medical Clinic newborns to geriatrics. The employees are patient-focused and dedicated to teamwork and patient satisfaction. Everyone at Memorial Medical Clinic LaHarpe appreciates the opportunity to provide comprehensive family health care. New patients are welcome."

Memorial Medical Clinic patients are encouraged to login to the patient portal via internet to view portions of their charts, ask questions of providers, request appointments and get information on lab work.

One of Memorial Hospital Clinics' goals was to increase patient care hours in La Harpe.

This goal was met with the addition of Dawn Cousins, NP in June of 2016.

Additional evening hours have proven beneficial to those working outside the community.

Memorial Medical Clinic La Harpe wants to continue to provide excellent care to people of the community.

Looking forward, there are future opportunities to provide expanded service which may include telehealth and aesthetics.
