Meet Your Neighbor

Meet your neighbor Somer Rae Hill who is a senior this year at West Central. Somer was born in Burlington, IA and raised in Oquawka where she lives today.

Somer's parents are Tami Hainds of Oquawka, who works as Mercer County High School Counselor, and Rob Hill of Burlington, IA who works for Doran and Ward Printing.

Her grandparents are Sandy and Joel Peterson and Russ and Dorothy Hainds all of Oquawka. Her great grandmother is Shirley Garner also of Oquawka.

Somer has two brothers, Zach Hill (Jacinda) of Media and Dylan Hill of Burlington, IA. She also has a nephew, Conner Hill, and a niece, Jenna Bewley.

Somer's high school activities have included: Volleyball (4 years), basketball (4 years), softball (1 year), NHS (2 years), Student Council (4 years), WYSE team (1 year), Spanish team (3 years) and yearbook (2 years).

Somer worked at Huck's Harbor at Fun City, Burlington, IA.

She enjoys playing volleyball and finding undiscovered artists on YouTube.

Special family vacations that Somer enjoys include a yearly trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to visit with her cousin Kathy who lives there and trips to St. Louis, MO area to spend time with family that lives there.

Her future plans include going to St. Louis University to major in Biology or Chemistry on the Pre-Med track..

Her advice to underclassmen - "Don't be disrespectful to your teachers, they decide whether you pass or fail."
