Well, have you prepared for Christmas? It's just 9 days and counting.
I hope the unrest in your life, whether it is on a personal level or in your city's board decisions, such as La Harpe's ongoing struggles, have not dampened your spirits and left you without peace this Christmas.
Politicians come and go, and time and perseverance (or elections or the next vote on policies) have a way of working things out.
I pray, in the case of the La Harpe residents, Mayor, and board members, they do not let the job that is set before them rob them of the celebration of this Christmas and all the love that surrounds the birth of a Saviour.
Leading is given to a privileged few, but if you study American history, you will find those who do it best are mindful they are mere servants and do it with a lot of humility.
As Americans, we each have our work cut out for us in selecting the best candidates to run as our next President.
It seems that everyday I have a letter from one or several of the candidates. The one I will back is not the one who asks me to support their agenda, but the one who listens and then works to support mine and the people's agenda.
Monday, I visited my son's car dealership in Des Moines, Iowa, Hummel Nissan, winner of the prestigious Global Award again this year for 2015 for being number one in Iowa and one of 50 nationwide for sales, retention, and customer satisfaction.
This family-owned operation has excelled, not because they pushed their own agenda, but because they care about yours. They continue to serve their best, whether you have bought or buy from them or not.
That means when you walk into their dealership, leading salesman and manager Chad Wilson asks "What can I do for you?" And he means it? He is a good listener and will try to meet any need you have. He understands service.
Mr. Hummel said, "We believe our customers deserve the best, which means evolving to meet their needs. None of this would be possible without the leadership and commitment of our employees. They exemplify customer service and ensure our consumers receive the Hummel's experience."
I think the Hummel experience would be a good thing to carry over into every part of our life...serving, listening, helping others. This could bring our homes, community, and jobs a lot more peace this Christmas and into the coming year.
