Busy December

It's just a short 16 days until Christmas but already, I have taken in a lot of activities. Have you? To celebrate the season and feel the Christmas spirit, you have to take part in a few things.

It's great when small communities put together parades and open houses such as La Harpe, Oquawka, and Stronghurst did recently. It brings back the good-ole-days.

This past weekend, Mt. Pleasant, IA held their annual train-ride to the North Pole in their Polar Express. There's the story told as you travel, cookies & cocoa, crafts, and a magical bell from Santa as a souvenir.

Also on Old Threshers' grounds from 5:30 to 9 p.m., is their expanding "Mount Pleasant Festival of Lights" sponsored by area businesses and individuals.Although the Polar Express is most likely sold out, the light parade is in its 4th weekend (10-13) and will run again Dec. 17-31.

It reminds me of Silver Dollar City's displays. Fill a car of family or friends and take in the lights. There's over 75 holiday displays and Santa will be there on the 10th, 13, 17, 19, and 20th. (see www.oldthreshers.com).

Tuesday night "The Texas Tenors" was at Burlington's Civil Music. I hope to have a report from Virginia Ross on the details. Thursday, (10th) Burlington Living Windows comes alive from 6-8 p.m. If all goes well, I hope to be in a store front with the SE Iowa Civil War re-enactors. Come see if you can find me. The 15th is West Central MS/HS winter concert at 7 p.m. at the HS.

Leo Ramer's Ecumenical singers will present their 36th Annual Christmas Concert Dec. 20 at 4 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth. See, there is still much to do and see. Enjoy the season!
