Meet Your Neighbor Teresa Covert. Teresa lives in Blandinsville and was born and raised in Nauvoo.
Teresa's parents are Lloyd Mapes, who passed away in 1971, and Euvon Mapes Radel, who married John Radel of Nauvoo in 1980. Both her father and her step-father were farmers.
Her mother was a farm wife who worked on the farm and was a township supervisor in Sonora Township. Her grandparents, the late Myrtle and Lloyd Mapes Sr. of Nauvoo and the late Beulah and Laurence Bolton of Hamilton were also farmers.
She has two brothers: Tim Mapes who works for Representative Mike Madigan in Springfield and Terry Mapes who is a warden in Newton, Iowa. Her sister Tammy (Mrs. Don Sewell) lives in Hamilton.
Teresa married Alan Covert August 19, 1980. Alan is a self employed farmer and cattle producer. They have two children: Cassandra Covert DeJaynes (Royce) and Christopher Covert.
They also have three grandchildren: Brexton DeJaynes, Dalton DeJaynes and Brynley Covert.
Teresa graduated from Nauvoo-Colusa High School in 1974. She attended the Quincy Beauty Academy graduating in 1975.
She worked as a beautician for 17 years, 8 years in Carthage at the Hairport and then in La Harpe at the Clip Joint until 1996.
Teresa has worked for the Post Office for 18 years with Roseville serving as her home office and working in other local offices as needed. In November 2014 she became the clerk for Stronghurst.
She is a member of UMC in La Harpe. She enjoys scrapbooking and yard work, but her grandchildren are the biggest enjoyment in her life.
When her children were young, Teresa and her family enjoyed trips to Colorado to ski. Now she and her husband prefer the warmer climate of the Caribbean and while vacationing there they enjoy the people and activities of the sun and the sea.
She is looking forward to retirement and being able to spend more time with her grandchildren. She is also looking forward to traveling. She is grateful to the Lord for the joys and blessings He has brought to her life.
