La Harpe Board of Education September Meeting

The La Harpe Board of Education held their regular meeting for September in the school library on the 15th.

At 6:15 p.m., a committee of the whole reviewed policy.

The board approved the consent agenda, payment of bills, the Annual Application for Recognition of Schools, 10-year Health/Life Safety Survey, and the annual Administrative Compensation and Teacher Salary & Benefits report.

Christina Geissler and Amber Siemens were approved as substitutes aides.

A request was approved for voluntary sick days to be transferred for use by Ellen Fark.

The Board held a budget hearing and approved the FY2016 Preliminary Budget, policy updates, and an overnight band trip.

The Board asked for teachers to continue to bring their mini-presentations to the meetings, which provide the Board a highly-valued "window into the classrooms".

Superintendent Olson met with a representative for the Illinois School Employee Benefits Consortium regarding options for changing our insurance.

Dr. Olson provided a letter from State Superintendent Tony Smith about the late release of PARCC test results.

Principal McKeown gave an update on athletic events, Open House, School Picture Day, and MAP testing.

Mrs. McKeown attended a workshop on IEP writing and is working on staff PI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certifications.

McKeown mentioned the days elementary and junior high staff meetings will regularly take place this school year.

McKeown has begun teacher evaluations this year, and reported the number of TAT and IEP meetings she has had held to date.

School board meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the school library.
