Meet Your Neighbor

By Sally Day for the Quill

When those who hired Debbie Sells as Occupancy Specialist and Assistant Director of Henderson County Housing Authority, they must have had an inkling at how much she cares for the seniors, the disabled and those in need

Debbie, of Oquawka, has held this position for nine years. She enjoys this job very much and appreciates all who work with her. Debbie truly loves helping others. She goes out of her way to assist seniors in the area, and anyone with disabilities.

Born in Muscatine, Iowa, and raised mostly in Eliza Township and Seaton, Debbie is the daughter of Kenneth and Twila Tweed, who are both deceased. She noted her parents were hard working people and were great role models.

Debbie has three siblings. Gina Tweed resides in California and is in aviation. Patty Tweed lives in Colorado and is employed as a hospice nurse. Brother Randy Tweed also lives in California, and is a corporate tax attorney. Randy is the father of two children, Nick and Savannah.

Leon and Katherine Hampton and Clifford and Opal Tweed were Debbie's grandparents, all of whom are deceased.

Debbie's husband, Ben and she have been married for 29 years. They are the parents of three children. Jim Sells is a heating and refrigeration tech, working at Independent Heating and Air Conditioning in Monmouth. Jim has three children, Jordan and Jacob, his sons, and Jillian, a daughter. Ben and Debbie's daughter, LeighAnn, works at Cornelius Imi Equipment Company, Inc. in Monmouth, a recycling plant. Their son, Tom, passed away at the tender age of 23 years .

Debbie loves music and she loves the holidays when the whole family can be together.

Her motto for life seems fairly self-explanatory, "Treat others the way you would like to be treated."
