La Harpe City Council Has Full House

The La Harpe City Council met on Monday, March 9th, 2015, at the La Harpe City Hall with a full house. The entire council was present with the exception of councilman Todd Irish.

Present were Monalisa Graves, Tim Graves, Wayne Humphrey, Daniel Carpenter, David Little, Kurt Dittmer, Dan Gillett, Max Owsley, David Mershon, Delbert Kreps, Doug Endres, Ryan Kienast, and Christy Kienast.

The council tabled the discussion on the ordinance pertaining to the waterbill collection/billing process until the new council/mayor is in place in May. Letters have gone out for delinquent water bills. Water bills need to be paid or they will be shut off. Reminder: water department employees are not responsible for taking water bill payments.

Payments need to be dropped off, in the drop box by city hall, or taken to First Impressions beauty shop at 201 North First Street, La Harpe.

Max Owsley, committee member from the Love La Harpe MAPPING Commerce subcommittee asked for approval of the city council to hold a farmer s market on the north side of the city park. The council voted and all approved the motion. The farmer s market is slated to start in early May, from 3-6 p.m., on Tuesdays. Look for more information in the Quill.

The next Supervisor s meeting is April 2nd. It was reminded again that the City Wide Clean-Up is May 8th.

Mike Bennett reported that the chimney on the Historical Society s building is losing more bricks. The council will ask the company that will be doing work on the La Harpe City Hall to look at the chimney and possibly do away with it, since the chimney is no longer in use.

Darrell Kraft is seeking bids for a metal roof built on the bandstand in the La Harpe City Park.

Councilman Mike Bennett also asked for improvement to be done to the basketball court which he said is in dire need of repair .

Western Illinois Regional Council (W.I.R.C) is working on getting more points for the Water Main Grant to improve La Harpe s chances for the grant.

The Community Development Assistants Program (CDAP) public hearing will be held on April 27th at 6:45, right prior to the council meeting. The public is encouraged to come to the hearing. The Water Main grant involves the water main project for the SE section of La Harpe.

Also, a motion was passed for the city to get involved with the Housing Grant process again.

On a side note, there are a couple of Lions Club members who are interested in getting the proper training to help with the Red Cross.

The next La Harpe City Council meeting will be on Monday, March 23, at the La Harpe City Hall.

Meetings are held each month on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month.
