La Harpe City Council

The La Harpe City Council met for their regular meeting January 26, at 7:00 p.m..

Aldermen present were: Todd Irish, Marcia Stiller, Michael Bennett, Josiah Neff, and Darrell Kraft. Also present were City Clerk-Lucretia McPeak, and Mayor-Kenneth Brown. Absent were Brian Lovell-Alderman and Marcia Neff-Treasurer. In attendance were: Tim Graves, Dan Gillett, and Doug Endres.

Gillett gave an update on funds he has raised to defray costs on the Hancock County Economic Development Historic Smithsonian Exhibit for La Harpe. At the January 12th meeting, Gillett gave the council an update on the Hometown Teams/Smithsonian exhibit that was in Carthage. The exhibit, (nine 8-foot panels) will be traveling to the various towns for special events. The exhibit will be at the La Harpe American Legion for Summerfest on July 23, 24, and 25th. The entire project cost about $12,000 with $8000 of that bill still being owed. The city council contributed $500 of the project. Gillett has raised $1,100.00 thus far, he said.

In other business, it was approved to pay for city employee Tim Graves to attend "Operator's Day" in Springfield on Tuesday, March 24th; and to pay for Daniel Carpenter to attend a refresher course on March 25th, and stay overnight in Springfield on March 24th.

The next Supervisor meeting will be February 5th at 4:00 p.m. at city hall.

The council agreed to check on a date for the May city-wide cleanup.

The council went into Executive Session with no action taken. The meeting adjourned at 8:23 pm.

The next scheduled regular council meeting will be held on February 9, at 7:00 p.m. at the La Harpe City Hall. Meetings are open to the public.
