The Jung Trio-Excellence

By Virginia Ross, The Quill

A good crowd gathered to experience a program that spanned centuries of great music and was performed by virtuoso performers. The Jung Trio consists of Jennie Jung on piano, a graduate of Julliard plus other noted institutions; her sister Julie Jung playing the cello whose academic credits are many, and Hana Hwon Kim, a graduate of Julliard and who was filling in for the third sister Ellen who had other commitments. These women wowed the audience!

Their program began with Haydn's "gypsy rondo" setting a lively tempo shifting to a stately melody. What was really unique was one of the trio explained the background of the composer and movement of each piece throughout the program. Being aware of these facts deepened one's appreciation as music filled the air.

Next was Beethoven's "Ghost trio" with haunting notes. Each piece definitely displayed the expertise of each member. Other selections were from Schubert, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Davorak, Ravel Shostakovick, Part, and modern day composer Hatzis, whom the trio had met in their studies in Canada.

Of note, perhaps to help you realize how talented this trio is, was the reaction of the audience at the end of each selection. I heard "Wonderful !" "Oh, My" and of course, "Excellent!" They were fantastic.

Bravo, Civic Music-you are the best deal around in entertainment. The Christmas show will feature "Jim McDonough's Holiday Grande." My friend keeps telling me what a great performer he is so mark your calendars for Dec. 10th. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Be there for a special Christmas present.
