It's Christmas Book Time-We Need Your Help; Christmas Open Houses; "Thanks "To Veterans
The cold weather is blowing into town and with it is the reminder that Christmas will soon be here. Are you getting ready?
STRONGHURST EVENT
Jim Blender, head of the Stronghurst Booster Club is busy as a bee helping the town prepare for their annual Christmas Open House from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, November 21st, yes, right before Thanksgiving and the busy month of December.
The Quill will be missing the presence of Dan Ashton's wonderful acting this year as he has a family commitment on that evening.
We are looking forward to John Kinyon, author of a children's book who will be in the Quill and reading his story in a wonderful Irish brogue of a Leprechaun who changes colors.
LA HARPE EVENT
In La Harpe, Ryan Kienast of the Golden Rule Club who works for me at the Hancock County Quill, is busy preparing for the La Harpe's Annual Old Fashion Christmas. Their event is set for Tuesday evening, December 2nd from 5 to 8 p.m.
Ryan said he modeled much of the event from the popular Stronghurst Walk which he and his family enjoy attending.
La Harpe's first two years were huge successes filling the streets. It involves almost every store in La Harpe with discounts and refreshments, a Vender Blender, carriage rides and a lighted parade!
NEED YOUR HELP
2014 CHRISTMAS BOOK
Our 2014 Christmas Book this year is really needing your help. We are wanting to fill it with lots of good recipes you may use around the holidays. Would you please email us a couple of recipes at Quillnewspaper@frontier.com, or mail them to "The Quill Christmas Book" PO BOX 149, Stronghurst, IL 61480, or drop them off at the Henderson County Quill office at 102 N Broadway, Stronghurst or The Hancock County Quill office at 103 E. Main Street, La Harpe before Nov. 22nd (no later than Nov. 26th). We need to have our book finished by the end of November so we can send it to the printer on December 3rd and have it ready for insertion of our newspapers on December 10th.
Besides your recipes, please send us any colorful stories, poems, pictures, or projects for Our Christmas Book?
Our book this year is called "The Taste & Colors of Christmas". Call us with any questions at 309-924-1871.
Remember we need your help and recipes as soon as possible, preferably at our Open House December 21st!
Now, the most important thing this week is to say "thanks" to our brave veterans who have served our country. Veterans Day tells Americans to be mindful that we enjoy our Christmas celebrations and our freedom to be and do as we choose, due to our faithful protectors who have sacrificed to keep our freedom in tack. Thank you dear veterans, may God bless each of you!
