Meet Your Neighbor Allison Janacek, a new teacher this year at West Central Middle School. She was born in Berwyn, raised in Brookfield and is currently living in Burlington, Iowa.
Her father, Tony, is employed as an engineer at CS Associates Structural Engineering in Brookfield and her mother, Anne, is an employee of Fannie Mae in the Chicago office. They currently live in Brookfield and take care of Allison's 103 year old grandmother!
Allison has one sister, Jennifer, who is an associate manager at Z Gallerie ( Stylish Home Decor & Chic Furniture) in Oak Brook.
Allison graduated from Lyons Township High School and attended Western Illinois University to earn her license in English Education with a minor in creative writing and an endorsement in social science.
During her high school years she played violin in the orchestra, joined the juggling club and was an active participant in the recycling club.
While in college she was a part of Sigma Tau Delta, NCTE, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and presented at the IATE Fall 2012 Conference. She also was active in the Newman Center.
Allison was previously employed as a paraprofessional at Jewel Middle School in North Aurora and is currently a 7th/8th grade language arts teacher at West Central Middle School.
Her hobbies include scrap-booking, roller blading, writing poetry and reading anime.
A favorite family vacation was spent at Walt Disney World.
Allison said, "When we were growing up we used to have family dinners on Saturday and Sunday nights and afterwards we would play the card game, "May I'".
Her future plans are to go back to school and earn her Masters Degree. A favorite quote of Allison's is from Winnie the Pooh:
"Promise me you'll always remember: you're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think."
