City Council Members Approve New Backhoe Purchase

The City Council approved the purchase of a new 2014 CASE backhoe with financing from First State Bank of Illinois, La Harpe. With interest at 3.2% APR for 5 years, the approximate total will be $74,000 after trade-in.

The La Harpe City Council met for their regular bi-monthly meeting on Monday, March 24, at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. Mayor Ken Brown opened the meeting with all council members were present.

The council members recognized a "water rate ordinance" that will increase the water rates at a 3% raise each year for 5 years. They also discussed a "clean-up ordinance" that will raise the cost of the fines for people not keeping their yards cleaned up. Both ordinances should be ready to discuss when the city attorney is present, at the next council meeting.

Council members are looking into adding a street for an emergency exit at the Housewright Addition.

It was reported that the cameras for the city police cars have arrived and should be installed as soon as possible.

A motion was approved to renew the liquor licenses for Casey's, RB Pitstop, and R&D Foods.

The WCAZ Kids' Summerfest Games will cost $425. The city approved a motion paying for the fee. The Summerfest dates are July 23rd through the 27th with the Hometown Harmonies performing Sunday, the 27th at the Union Church.

The La Harpe Classic Car Show reunion is set for Saturday, August 2nd.

A motion was approved for the annual ALS Walk on June 7th.

The next Supervisors meeting will be April 3rd at 4:00 pm. at City Hall. These monthly meetings include a supervisor from each city department.

The next city council meeting will be on Monday, April 14, 2014 at the La Harpe City Hall at 7:00 p.m. The council voted to adjourn the meeting at 7:38 p.m.
