Meet your neighbor Amy Graham of Carthage.
Amy has been the Carthage Community Director for two years. Before starting this position she was an elementary school teacher at Carthage Elementary for 22 years and an elementary school principal for 10 years at Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Amy was born in Carthage in 1953 to H. Lee and Dorothy Huston. H. Lee Huston was born and raised in Carthage.
He served in the US Navy and worked for several years for Northwest Airlines before returning to the Carthage area to take over the Huston Insurance Agency.
He was elected to Carthage City Council in 1957 and served as Mayor of Carthage from 1972-1973 and 1975-1981. Lee was very devoted to the city of Carthage and spent countless hours working on behalf of it. He passed away in 1986.
Dorothy was born and raised in Chicago and moved to Carthage with her husband in the 1950's. Dorothy resided in Carthage until 2002 when she passed away.
Dorothy directed several plays and musical productions in Carthage, she served as president of Peoria of Diocese of Catholic Women and devoted her life to her family and her church.
Amy graduated high school in 1971 from Carthage Community High School. In 1975, she graduated from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin with a bachelor s degree in physical education.
In 1981 she graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a master s degree in elementary education and in 2000 she graduated from University of Nevada Las Vegas with a master s degree in educational leadership.
In 1990, Amy married Mitch Graham of Las Vegas. Mitch worked as a golf professional for many years in Nevada, California and Arizona.
He owned Graham's Golden Golf Store in Laughlin, Nevada before he moved into the casino business.
He was quickly promoted to executive casino host at several resorts located in Laughlin and Las Vegas. He currently is an independent/owner operator of NV Guy Trucking and Transport for several different companies.
Amy and Mitch have one daughter, Ashley. Ashley is the mother of their four grandchildren and reside in Sparks, Nevada.
Amy has two brothers, Mike and John. Mike and his wife Sonja, live in Arlington, Virginia and John and his wife Sherry live in Carthage. Amy has several nieces and nephews living in Illinois, Indiana, Colorado, and London, England.
In her spare time, Amy enjoys camping, horseback riding, golfing, singing, playing piano and cooking. Her favorite vacations were spent camping at Oak Creek Canyon in Arizona and on the beach at Lake Mohave, Arizona.
Amy is a member of the following organizations Kiwanis Club of Carthage, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, IC Women s Club, Carthage Area Chamber of Commerce, Nauvoo Chamber of Commerce, Big River United Way Board of Directors, and the Hancock County Economic Development Corporation.
