On December 17, 2013 a regular meeting of the La Harpe Board of Education was held in the school library with the following members in attendance: Vice Pres. Nate Butler, Dustin Detherage, Bobi James, and David Mershon. Supt. Ryan Olson and Board Sec. Jeanne Clayton were also in attendance.
The board approved held hearings for and adopted the tax levy and the school code waiver regarding school improvement days. The board discussed posting No Gun signage at the school entrances reflecting House Bill 183, the newly worded Illinois Conceal Carry law and discussed reviewing policy changes prior to the January meeting as a Committee of the Whole.
The board accepted Brian Covert's custodial resignation, approved Laura Kneiss as custodian and Linda Harrington as sub custodian.
The board approved employee's voluntary sick day transfer for use by Kathi Rogers, and approved the consent agenda and payment of bills.
Supt. Olson's report included information from a regional superintendent meeting and PARC Field Testing for Algebra in the spring. Dr. Olson also brought information from a Western Area Schools insurance meeting on employer mandates due to the Affordable Care Act.
Principal McKeown's report was read. It included athletic and student activity updates. La Harpe music students participated in the Country Christmas Parade, 8th graders took a reading test at Illini West, vision and hearing screenings have been completed. McKeown also listed professional development meetings participated in by La Harpe teaching staff.
