HENDERSON COUNTY HISTORICAL Society Holds Meeting And Prepares For Heritage Trails for Sept 28 & 29

The Henderson County Historical Society will hold their fall meeting on Tuesday, October 1st at the Raritan Opera House. A potluck supper will be held at 5:30 PM with the meeting portion after the meal. Drink and table service and will be provided. Mr. Art Kane will give the program on his recent trip to Gettysburg, Valley Forge, and other points of interest. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The July 4th barbecue was a success due to those that cooked, served, and cleaned up. The St. Patrick's Community Center allowed the group to use their facility. Approximately $2,000 was raised which is being used to maintain the various historical facilities.

On September 14th, a paint day at the Graham School was held in Raritan. Sixteen volunteers showed up to give the school house a new coat of white paint and to paint the shutters green. It looks very nice and Jim and Doris Cook were appreciated for preparing the school and for the dinner that was served.

The Homesteaders Cabin on the Phelp's Property in Oquawka also got a new coat of paint on its south side. Both the school and the cabin were looking rough and now they look nice for Heritage Trails.

The Raritan State Bank will be hosting a Customer Appreciation Day on September 27th from 4:30 to 7 P.M. It will be held at the Raritan Park next to the museum.

The museum will also be open during this time if anyone wishes to eat and then tour the facilities.

Be sure to enjoy our county this weekend and treasure its history and beauty.
