Meet Your Neighbor

by CHRISTY KIENAST, The Quill

Meet your neighbor and Illini West Senior Shelby Donelle Thompson of La Harpe.

Shelby is the daughter of Sherri and Harley Jones of La Harpe and Karl Thompson of Lomax.

Her mother works at SEIRPC in West Burlington, Iowa and Harley works at Crop Production Services in Ferris.

Shelby was raised in Lomax for 8 years and in Dallas City for 4 years. She has worked at the La Harpe Davier Healthcare Center for over a year and before that she baby-sat.

She has a brother, Dugan, 14, a step-sister, Karly, 16, and a half-brother, Nate, 10 months, at home in La Harpe. She also has half-brothers and half-sisters that live in Lomax with her dad.

Shelby is the granddaughter of Bev and Bill Worley and Joyce Thompson and the late Bob Thompson all of Lomax.

Her favorite vacation memory was when her family went to North Carolina and she and her sister made their brother sleep between their parents because they didn’t want him to share a hotel bed with them, and they called him “Cookie” and “Ducky” for the whole vacation.

Shelby loves to play volleyball. One of her favorite memories is when her 7th grade volleyball team won the state championship. A personal highlight of her season was when she was selected on the all-tournament team at the Rushville volleyball tournament this year. Shelby has played volleyball since the 5th grade and club volleyball since her junior year.

Her favorite high school memory is having feasts in Accounting I her junior year and all the funny things that happened throughout high school.

She is President of SADD, in Key Club and also in FBLA.

Shelby says, “I like spending my time with my friends and family doing literally anything.”

She will graduate in the Illini West Class of 2014 next Spring and plans to attend college and study veterinary medicine.
