Meet your neighbor Brenda Palmer, born and raised in Fountain Green. Her parents are Linda (Patch) and the late, Robert McConnell.
"Growing up in Fountain Green was a great life, with my grandparents living right down the road. My dad came from a family of 11 children and my mom, 6, so I always felt like we had a big family."
Brenda has one sister, Sheila Link (Bradley) and one brother, Mike McConnell/aka/Buckshot.
"In 1977, I got married at 17 years old to my sweetheart, Larry Palmer. He came from a family of 7 brothers, who seem just like my own brothers, and their wives are some of my best friends. There is nothing quite like family."
Brenda said as a young person, she started out cleaning houses for income.
"One fascinating lady I cleaned for was Kathryn Peasley, of Stronghurst. She was a big influence on my life. She was so good to me and always encouraged me."
Brenda later got a job at Methode Electronics and worked there for 26 years.
"That place was like family to me, and I still get excited when I see a former co-worker somewhere."
After Methode cutbacks, went back to school and obtained her Associates Degree.
"My goal was to work with the elderly. They are the most appreciative people I know."
As Brenda was finishing school, she ran across a job opportunity that she decided to try.
"I started working for Rasmussen & Dittmer Law Office, in La Harpe. It's been over 2 years and I love my job & keep very busy. Billie Kirby, a High School student of rural Carthage, recently joined our office. The boss is good to me and I love people, so I really enjoy that aspect of it. It is truly a learning experience."
Larry and Brenda have one son, Jesse Palmer, and a nephew/son, Chris Palmer. Jesse works for F/S in Colusa.
He is married to Shelby (Barlett) Palmer and they have one son, Jensen Palmer. Jensen is 9 months old.
"He has completely melted our hearts, as well as a few other grandparents I know. Jensen has a giggle that can revive even the most exhausted laborer (Larry works for Laverdiere Const.)"
"Our nephew Chris, lived with us as a child in Fountain Green, and is like an older brother to Jesse. He lives in Clearwater Florida, and has worked at Shepard's for several years. He and Jesse love their Fountain Green heritage.
"My faith in God is my guiding factor and saving grace in life. I am part of our Fountain Green Sunday School class that I cherish. I am nothing without God. He is my rock. I am so blessed with close friends and my mother is my dearest. Virginia Palmer is another, and we love going to the crick, rock hunting, kayaking, hiking, and all aspects of nature. Friends are a treasure in life. I have a favorite saying that I love, written by Maya Angelou: â"I've learned that People will forget what you said, People will forget what you did, BUT, People will never forget how you made them feel."
