Years ago when Margie Barber and I were discussing early history of this township, she gave me this history of the area-commemoration of the town of Media's 125th birthday, these articles written by Faree Mathers are being shared.--Virginia Ross --- Part V:
WEDDINGS
The first wedding in Media was Miss Ella Rankin and Jay King.
The first church wedding was held in the Methodist Church Dec. 27, 1942.
Doris Bigger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Bigger, became the bride of Dick Galley of Carman.
The next one in the M.E. Church was that of Wanda Heap, daughter of Gayle and Gladys Heap to Elmer Lee Hardin of Raritan.
The first wedding in the United Presbyterian Church was Jan. 20, 1945. Dorothy Graham, daughter of Frank Harold and Eurle Graham and grand daughter of E.S.Mathers, married Gilbert Chewing of Dallas City. She was serving as a "Wave" in the Navy at the time of her marriage having enlisted in 1943. She came home with five of her Wave friends from Washington, D.C. who stood up with her at the wedding. Then she returned to Washington and stayed until she was discharged from service.
The next one in the U.P. Church was June 10, 1945.
Rachel Gibson, daughter of Paul and Faye Gibson, was married to Robert Neff of Raritan.
Mary Lee , daughter of Creigh and Marie Hemminger was married to Earl Taylor of Bald Bluff, Illinois, Dec. 27, 1951.
Helen Shelton, niece of Carl and Margaret Shelton, was married to Jim Knapp of Raritan, June 7, 1962.
Joyce Reid, daughter of Ora and Emma Reid was married to Larry Cravins of Oblong, Illinois, July 10, 1964.
