Breakaway College Girl

Hello Readers!

I can't believe this is my last week of classes at NIU for my freshmen year! Time sure does fly and I can not believe finals are next week and then it is summertime!

My first year at NIU has taught me so many things about myself. It is so hard to adjust to being on your own, but I am a much more organized and cleaner person now! I used to not really care so much, but when you have a small space to live in, you definitely want to keep it clean and in order.

I have also learned that you can not depend on other people to do your work for you. In high school, I never really had homework or had to study.

If I had a question I would wait until class and my teachers would help me. College is not like that. Your teachers aren't going to work the problems for you. Sometimes they don't even give you study guides for tests and you have to figure out what you think is most beneficial to study. You have to put the time and effort in to get the grade you want. The more effort you put in, the better results you will get. You can not rely on everyone else.

One big thing that I truly believe everyone needs to realize in their life is that we need to stop and be thankful for where we are in life. I was that senior that had a countdown until graduation and said everyday how I could not wait to get out of high school.

Be thankful for the time you spend in high school with all your friends, your sports, and activities.

Be thankful you have a job, even if it is not where you want to be forever.

Cherish the dreadful basketball practices and the 200 sprints for they'll make you better.

Have fun with your projects in class and the little time you have left with your classmates. Quit wishing time away, because it already goes by fast enough.

I also would just like to thank all my readers!

My column would be nothing if I did not have my readers!

I am so appreciative and I love writing it each week and letting you all know my thoughts and experiences.

There won't be a column next week since I will be studying like crazy to get through finals!

Enjoy this warmer weather and remember, Summer is just around the corner!
