Breakaway College Girl

by Ali Postle, Freshman at Northern Illinois University -DeKalb; 2012 West Central Grad -Special For The Quill

I am back everyone! Sorry about the few weeks without my column. I took a little break since I was home on Christmas Break. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! I sure know I had a great time being home and spending time with my friends and family. It is great how you can reunite with old friends like you have never been away. I was so excited to spend time with my friends, since I had not seen some of them since I left for school in August. It was so great to catch up, laugh, and make new memories.

It is hard to get back into school when you are gone for a whole month. It feels like the start of a whole new thing. I have all different class and professors. I am a little nervous about this semester, but I am also excited. I have some tough classes like Chemistry, but I also have some exciting ones that pertain to my major. I am taking a human development class that I feel is going to be quite a bit of fun. It seems pretty interesting.

I am also going into this semester with a new outlook. As many of you know, I really did not enjoy my time at Northern last semester. I am going in with a different attitude and I feel this will help me enjoy my spring semester so much more than the fall. Looking back, my first semester of college went by in a blink of an eye. I am sure this semester will do the same, and I intend to enjoy every minute of it. There is no sense in doing something, if you are going to be grumpy about it the whole time. You might as well put on a smile and get done what needs to get done.

Something that I have learned is that you have to make the best out of every situation. Sometimes life throws us a curveball, and we just have to be ready to say, “well alright, I got this.” Don’t let little things ruin your experience. Everything gets better with a better attitude!
