Meet Your Neighbor

Meet your neighbor, Rob Scott. He is the owner of Scott Equipment and Repair on route 34 in Biggsville.

Rob was born in Fort Madison, IA and his family moved to Biggsville where he was raised and graduated in 1987 from Union High School.

In high school he played basketball and his senior year he was on the first ever golf team at Union. After high school he worked at Country Auto on route 94 south of the school, then worked at Champion Spark Plug in Burlington, IA.

While at Champion Rob attended Western Illinois University as he earned his Bachelor degree in Manufacturing Engineering. From there he was employed as an engineer at Hansaloy Corporation, General Dynamics, John Deere in Davenport, IA, where they manufacture construction and forestry equipment and Case Corporation in Burlington, IA.

Rob's parents are Ron Scott in West Burlington, IA and Margo Ballard in Burlington, IA.

Rob met his wife, Barb Jern, in Oquawka the summer after he graduated. Her father, Pete, is deceased and her mother, Sharon, lives in Oquawka. Barb was a freshman in school when Rob was a senior.

They celebrated their twenty-first anniversary this past year, as they were married in 1992 at the Christian Church in Monmouth.

They have two children. Tyler is eighteen and a freshman at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He has been gone only a short time but it is a big adjustment for the family having him gone. Tyler has a sister, Grace, who is a freshman at West Central this year. Barb is the school nurse at West Central so they go to school together.

Rob has a sister Melissa Tinkham who works for Alexis Fire Equipment and she has two daughters, Tonya and Tara. He also has a younger brother, Mike. His grandma, Mary Trout, lives in Dallas City.

Rob enjoys bow hunting and golfing in his spare time and spending time with family and friends is the most important. When their children were younger they took a family vacation to Disney World accompanied by Barb's parents, Pete and Sharon and her sister, Tricia and her husband Vannie Keever.

For their twentieth wedding anniversary Rob and Barb vacationed in Mexico.

Rob has a vision to grow his local business and wants the community to grow also. He wants his customers to know they will receive honest, trustworthy service at Scott Equipment and Repair and has hope that people will choose to shop locally. The local economy is headed in a very positive direction and we all hope that continues.
