Greetings to ever one in western Illinois and all readers of The Quill. Many folk feel we've received enough rain fer a spell. Tiles are runn'n and the ponds are fill'n up.
Spring Weather
Some fellers are accustomed to have'n some corn seed in the ground this middle part of April. Last year there was a lot of seed in the ground by now but, that was an unusually early spring.
Special Events
With the wet spring it has allowed folk who might normally be in the field to attend special events. I'm a hope'n ever one enjoyed the Presbyterian Annual Chicken Fry, Scott's Open House with free eats, Brian Freeman's Southern Gospel concert at Union Church in La Harpe, mother, daughter, sister, friend banquet fer Relay-For-Life of Henderson County at Biggsville Presbyterian Church, Small World Day Care Center in Stronghurst Annual Maidrite Dinner at Stronghurst Methodist Church, Ducks Unlimited 15th Annual Banquet at "The Pink" and of course the recent election.
There's been plenty of funerals and visitations to attend lately and I'm a hope'n no one has been too busy to take time out and pay your respects. It means a lot to those families involved and if'n you are too busy for such things - it might be you are too busy! Better pay a visit to friends and neighbors whilst they are still around to enjoy it.
Congratulations and thank you to Brad Flatt and manager Scott Shaner for keep'n another business a go'n in these parts. It all helps in make'n our communities special and lets support their efforts.
Has ever one tried the Witch's Rib BBQ west of La Harpe on Hwy 9? It's worth the effort and another bonus to our community along with "The Pink".
Alabama Judge
A friend of mine recently sent me updated information on Judge Roy Moore of Alabama.
Some of you may be wondering what Judge Roy Moore has been doing since he was removed from the bench for refusing to remove the Ten Commandments from his courtroom wall.
The following is a poem written by Judge Roy Moore from Alabama. Judge Moore was sued by the ACLU for display’n the Ten Commandments in his courtroom foyer. He was striped of his judgeship but was recently elected as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court!
The judge's poem sums it up quite well.
America? the beautiful, or so you used to be.
Land of the Pilgrim's pride; I'm glad they'll never see.
Babies piled in dumpsters, Abortion on demand,
Oh, sweet land of liberty; your house is on the sand.
Our children wander aimlessly poisoned by cocaine choosing to indulge their lusts, when God has said abstain.
From sea to shining sea, our Nation turns away
From the teaching of God's love and a need to always pray.
We've kept God in our temples, how callous we have grown.
When earth is but His footstool, and Heaven is His throne.
We've voted in a government that's rotting at the core,
Appointing Godless Judges; who throw reason out the door,
Too soft to place a killer in a well deserved tomb,
But brave enough to kill a baby before he leaves the womb.
You think that God's not angry, that our lands a moral slum?
How much longer will He wait before His judgment comes?
How are we to face our God, from Whom we cannot hide?
What then is left for us to do, but stem this evil tide?
If we who are His children, will humbly turn and pray;
Seek His holy face and mend our evil way;
Then God will hear from Heaven; and forgive us of our sins,
He'll heal our sickly land and those who live within.

Obama came in fifth
And by the way my friend also informed me that Obama is rated 5th best US President ever. Thought this was quite interesting.......
Of the total 44 US Presidents: Obama rated 5th best president ever. This friend said a Democratic publicity release said, "...after a little more than 4 years, Obama has been rated the 5th best president ever-Amazing!"
