by Christy Kienast

The La Harpe City council met on Monday September 24, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the La Harpe City Hall building. All council members were present.

There was a reminder that city wide cleanup will be October 19th.

Councilman Darryl Kraft remarked on the meeting he attended on Thursday September 20th concerning the referendum for the Illini West high school. Illini West Superintendent Kim Schilson will be attending

the next La Harpe city council meeting on October 8th.

The steering committee is trying to get information out as to why the district needs a new building. Tours of the high school building will be set up in the near future or you can call the school for an appointment.

La Harpe residents are now able to buy flood insurance. The city of La Harpe is now a participant in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

There have been complaints about trees being overgrown on the road to the reservoir and trees and weeds growing up behind the Quill office in La Harpe.

It was brought up about having a Christmas celebration in town. There is interest in having a night time Christmas celebration in town with open houses, carriage rides, etc. This celebration would be along the

same lines as Stronghurst and Carthages' Christmas celebrations with possibly a night lighted Christmas parade. A committee meeting was set up for further discussion.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
