Meet Your Neighbor

Meet your neighbor Molly Porter of La Harpe. Molly was born in East Moline and was raised in La Harpe. Molly is the daughter of Charles and Claudia Apt. Charles was a teacher and then a principal at La Harpe Junior High and La Harpe High School. Claudia was a stay at home mom and then the secretary at La Harpe High School. They both retired in 2004 and enjoy antiquing and spending time with their dog, Cappy. Molly is married to Todd Porter, a teacher and coach at La Harpe Junior High School. Todd and Molly have two boys, Peyton and Jackson. Peyton is 14 and a freshman at Illini West High School. Jackson is 11, and is a 6th grader at La Harpe Junior High. Both boys are very active in baseball and basketball and Peyton plays football for Illini West.

Molly has two siblings. Her older sister Josie Earl lives in North Richland Hills, Texas and works for Bioscript Inc. She and her husband John have 4 children, Alexis, Ali, Stone and Gabbi.

Younger brother, Jason lives in Plainfield and works for Legal Recovery Solutions. Jason keeps busy with his girlfriend Megan and her son, Grant.

Molly graduated from La Harpe High School in 1992 and from Western Illinois University in 1996 with a degree in Finance. S

he has been an Independent sales director with Mary Kay Cosmetics for the last 10 years. She is also a substitute teacher for La Harpe and Illini West School Districts.

Molly previously worked for the Citizens National Bank and had her own daycare so she could stay home with her boys.

Molly's grandparents were the late Frank and Ila Apt and Jack and Mary Belle Sharpe, all of La Harpe. She never knew her grandpa Frank, as he died shortly after she was born.

One of Molly's greatest treasures was being able to help take care of her grandmother Mary Bell in the last months of her life.

Molly is involved with the La Harpe Eagle Boosters and the Union Church of La Harpe. Molly's hobbies include going to Peyton and Jackson's sporting events and school activities and spending time with her family and friends.

She also likes to swim, go for walks and working in the yard. As a Sales Director with Mary Kay, Molly has earned four career cars and is working on her fifth.

Her favorite memories are her wedding day and the births of her boys. Her favorite vacation was her and Todd's honeymoon to Washington, DC.
