Relay For Life, Runs Past Goal!

The totals are in and you won't believe how well Henderson County did.

The 2011 American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Henderson County had an amazing turnout this summer and we exceeded the goal. The final total was::$46,673! The goal was $34,000.

Not only was the fundraising out of this world but they ended the event with 13 teams, 167 participants, and 71 survivors. It was so amazing.

They did so well that they were recognized at the 2011 American Cancer Society Leadership Summit and awarded the Relay All Star award. This is only given to events that show growth in 4 of the 6 categories.

Without the committee, the teams, and the survivors, but most of all, the Henderson County residents for their outpouring of support that was shown at the event this could not have happened.

All of the teams did amazing as noted by our final total, but I think we need to let all of you know who the top 5 teams were. Coming in 5th place was the Raritan Redbirds with $2,920, 4th place Oquawka United Methodist Church with $3,127.25, 3rd place Paul's Girls: $3,395.15, 2nd place Bethel Lutheran church: $5,862 and 1st Place goes to Clovers for a Cause: $13,895.40.

Clovers for a Cause was also recognized at Leadership Summit for reaching over $10,000.

The committee works tirelessly all year to spread the word, walk in parades, and run the event.

They say goodbye to several who served on the committee: Nancy Hull, Sara Hull, Amy Hull, Melinda Whiteman, and Charlotte Shafer. They will miss you on the committee but know that you will continue to fight back in other ways.

Said Cindy Kane, "I will never forget at the event how beautiful the track looked during the Lumanaria Ceremony, 460 lined the track with names that represented a friend, a parent, neighbors, a loved one who is either still fighting the fight or only lives in our hearts now. It is a wonderful time to remember them."

They look forward to July 13-14 2012 as the next Relay for Life of Henderson County.

They are always looking for people who have a desire to fight back against cancer or are looking for a way to serve this wonderful county that we live in.
