It's Scouts' Cookie Time

by Christy Kienast, The Quill

Every year in January the Girl Scouts get geared up for their annual Girl Scout Cookie sale. And this year was no different. The girls in Troop 5051 sold over 1300 boxes this year. The classic kinds like Thin mints, peanut butter patties and the carmel delites were favorites once again.

All the girls in Troop 5051 upped their cookie sales this year with the thought in mind that if they each sold 160 boxes they would get to go to either Fun City in Burlington or the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. They have chosen to go to Chicago. Top seller this year was Haylee Kienast with 372 boxes followed by Annie Sholl with 292 boxes and Kellie Allaman (last years top seller) with 255.

This year the girls were given an extra week to sell their delicious goods and troop leaders were given much needed extra time to enter the orders onto the website. Now they have been given extra time to deliver and have the money in the bank before the council withdraws their part.

Girl Scout cookies in our area are Thanks A Lots-shortbread with chocolate covered bottoms, Lemonades-shortbread with lemon covered bottom. The favorites Thin mints - chocolate covered mint, Caramel De-Lites- coconut and caramel cookies. Also have regular shortbread, chocolate covered Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwich and the new ones this year Shout Outs.

Every year the troops have extra cookies leftover so if anyone needs cookies, get a hold of your local Girl Scout troops.

Haylee Kienast delivers some of her 292 boxes of cookies she sold this year during the Girl Scout annual cookie sale.
