You are asked to picture your father. What image comes to your mind? A man with greasy, calloused hands and sweat dripping from his forehead?
One in a business suit and tie?
One in blue jeans and a casual shirt?
Or perhaps one who wore a uniform.
Do you hear a gentle voice or boisterous laughter?
Can you remember him being there for you when you needed him?
What did you do together - go fishing, bake cookies? Did he bring you a candy bar?
Did he let you know when you had made a mistake - did he take the time to teach you right from wrong?
Did you see a tear when he walked you down the aisle?
Can you remember what he said when he first handed you the car keys?
Did he have a hobby? Was he a workaholic?
Did he spend lots of time with you or was he busy providing for you? Did you see him helping others?
Reading his Bible or praying? What do you remember him enjoying eating? Did he listen to music? Dance?
What was the most important conversation you and he shared? What would you like to say to him today?
Many of us are blessed with wonderful memories of our father. There are others of us who are not. But we do each have the opportunity of choosing to know the Heavenly Father whose love for us is eternal.
