Donna Buss of Media recently took "The Quill" along to the 2011 BSA national meeting in San Diego, CA. During that time, her son, John's ship pulled in to port and the contingent from their council (Mississippi Valley Council) were treated to a tour of the USS FREEDOM LCS-1 by John. He is the Navigator and also fills in several other capacities in the small crew of 40. The ship is the size of a frigate but, is a one of a kind automated "stealth" ship which can travel at speeds greater than 46 mph. More ships of her class are expected in the next few years. John is a LTJG but was promoted to LT on June 1st. When you go on a trip, take "The Quill" along and have your picture taken with it, then send it to us. Let's see where all "The Quill" can travel.
