Meet Your Neighbor Kayla Smith, who is presently staying with her parents in Stronghurst while her husband is deployed.
She was born in Burlington, Iowa and raised in Stronghurst.
In 2009 Kayla graduated from West Central High School where she was very active in volleyball.
In 2010 Kayla received her certificate/license from Mt. Sanjacinto Community College in California as a Certified Pharmacy Technician.
She and hubby, Charles, have been married two years. He is in the United States Marines Corps, currently serving a 6-8 month term in Afghanistan working with heavy equipment, building roads and bridges.
They just recently were stationed at Camp Pendelton in San Diego, California before his deployment where Kayla loved the weather and the lack of bugs.
Her parents are Mark and Lisa Burgus of Stronghurst.
She has two brothers, Kyle who recently graduated from West Central High School and Kevin who is a Junior.
Before their move to California, Kayla attended Stronghurst Christian Church.
Her primary hobby and business is her photography (Kayla Smith Photography) where she has taken some beautiful shots of engagements and couples along the sandy beaches of the Pacific. She says her focus is on creativity and passion as she photographs her subects.
She also is passionate about making care packages for Charles. Every two weeks she crafts a special package for him besides sending him "love" letters.
Kayla said, "While we were in California for two years we were able to do a lot of traveling," which she really enjoyed.
When asked what she enjoyed about being a military wife her reply was, " I love the connection of the military families, their support, sense of duty and they are just like a big family."
Kayla has taken some recent photos of track and Middle School graduation for The Quill.
